The artist was especially known as painter of superb portraits and genre pieces with fine detail treatment and beautifully balanced composition. He studied at the Munich Academy as pupil of Wilhelm von Diez. Since 1873, his works been regularly at the major art exhibitions in Berlin, Dresden, Munich and Vienna. Mainly with paintings depicting representations from the upper Bavarian folk, like character portraits, landscapes and interiors (Visiting the grandmother, 1873," On the Market, 1876, "Flower Girl, 1880, "Cook with poultry, 1881," Card player in a village tavern, 1886). His Alpine genre pieces are influenced by Franz von Defregger, but with more accent to the humorous note like works by Eduard von Grützner, Hugo Kaufmann or Hugo von Kotschenreiter, which also been activ in Munich at the second half of the 19th Century.
